Implementing Digital Forensics for Emerging Technologies

Widespread adoption of technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing has changed how data is processed and stored and has profoundly affected IT infrastructures and business operations. With these emerging technologies, however, come new cybersecurity risks and complexities, including novel challenges for IT and security teams conducting digital forensic investigations. To improve the understanding of how individuals working in the field of digital forensics have been affected by emerging technologies like the IoT and cloud, EC-Council’s CISO MAG conducted a survey of industry professionals. The aim of this survey was to gauge security professionals’ opinions of organizational forensic readiness, identify current challenges in implementing digital forensics in emerging technologies, and assess respondents’ preferences for digital forensic education. Our findings provide insight into upcoming trends and challenges that are expected to emerge as digital forensics becomes more deeply integrated with these technologies, with particular applicability to cybersecurity and digital forensics education.
