How Organizations Are Handling the Cloud Security Skills Gap

Cloud technologies have been evolving rapidly for some time, paving the way for companies to complete their digital transformations. Although migrating to the cloud or adopting cloud-native solutions can offer many benefits—and, in some cases, is becoming critical to organizations’ operations—it can also introduce new security concerns arising from cloud-related cyberthreats. However, there is a twofold problem in the cloud security market: First, there is a shortage of talent with the training and skills needed to handle cloud security, and second, there are high costs associated with some cloud security solutions. Many companies have difficulty finding professionals with cloud experience to manage their cybersecurity, and existing security and IT personnel are struggling to keep up with the challenges of the fast-changing cloud technology environment. The cloud security skills gap has a particularly serious impact on organizations attempting to implement remote work models, as doing so often involves adopting cloud storage and applications. This paper discusses some of the current leading challenges in cloud security and provides an overview of what organizations are doing to address the shortage of skilled cloud security professionals.
